President Donald Trump has spent weeks critiquing other people’s bodies on the campaign trail, but one gust of wind just turned the tables on him.
As Trump boarded Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews for a midterm rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, a blast of wind flipped up the hair on the back of his head and laid bare the thinning patch he has publicly lamented, The Daily Beast reported Saturday. Reuters photographer Evan Vucci captured the moment.
The images showed a sharp contrast between the pink skin of Trump’s scalp and the orange tone of his face and neck. Lighter strands also peeked out from under a darker top layer, a mix The Daily Beast likened to a melting carton of Neapolitan ice cream.
The Daily Beast noted reactions on X. “That comb-over is flapping like a wounded bird, desperately trying to clear the runway,” a user quoted by the Beast quipped. “Trump may be heading to Florida, but his hair is already airborne.”
The pile-on landed on a president who rarely holds back about other people’s looks. On Thursday, Trump told a reporter to “shape up,” and his midterm stops have been heavy with commentary on the bodies of his political allies. At Friday’s rally, he once again recounted sizing up Ohio Republican Sen. Jon Husted from behind, describing his legs as “very powerful” and his fingers as “like sausages.”
Trump has also been candid about how much his hair bothers him. Speaking to supporters in San Antonio earlier this month, he halted mid-speech after spotting the back of his head on a screen.
“Getting a little bit thin up there, I’m not happy,” he said, repeatedly touching his head. “This is not good news. Now I’m depressed.”
Weeks before that, at a convention in Dallas, he had a similar moment after catching himself on the jumbo screens.
“I don’t like that little skin that’s showing; I’m not happy with it,” Trump told the crowd. “I shouldn’t have looked up there.”
Trump took the hair-loss drug finasteride, sold as Propecia, during his first term, though the medication has not shown up in his medical reports since he returned to the White House, according to The Daily Beast.
The White House did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.
