Leaks From Inside Taylor Swift’s Wedding? Impossible.

It has been almost four months since the pop star Taylor Swift married the football player Travis Kelce in a wedding that ground Midtown Manhattan to a halt, and the most fans have seen from the extravaganza are glimpses of faux foliage, A-list guests in black-tie on the way into and out of the event, coral drapes over the windows of Madison Square Garden and a neon pink “JUST&T MARRIED” billboard outside.

From the couple, fans have heard only a tight-lipped description. “It’s a night we’ll never forget,” Kelce said on an episode of “New Heights,” the podcast he hosts with his brother. “It was just so magical, man.”

On Monday, The Daily Mail published what it described as digital renderings of the altar and reception area from an unnamed source, though none of those details have been verified by The Times or by Swift’s team, who would not comment on the report. The Mail claims to have renderings of Swift’s custom Dior wedding dress too, as imagined by artificial intelligence (Dior, for the record, has “no comment” on this thought experiment).

The idea that fans, waiting breathlessly for photos, might be satiated with imagined drawings speaks volumes about not just the rabid interest in the Swift-Kelce wedding, but also the new dynamics of the celebrity wedding ecosystem. Photos and details that were once sold and published in glossy magazines — as with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, or George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin — are now held closely and released when and if the celebrity wishes, in a curated and controlled manner on whatever platform they prefer. Alternatively, a wedding shrouded in complete secrecy has become a luxury in itself.

“We’re living in a world where people will post 47 photographs of their wedding cake before the cake has been cut, and Taylor Swift has gone nearly four months without showing us a single one,” said Carson Griffith, writer of a popular Substack newsletter chronicling the guarded lives of rich people (and a contributor to The New York Times). “In a culture addicted to oversharing, restraint has become glamorous.”

Restraint might be a strange word to describe a wedding with a 1,000-person guest list, which required retooling a massive sports and concert venue into a romantic wedding location, but the lack of any substantial leaks from inside the event is a feat, said Rishi Patel, an event planner who has worked on celebrity weddings, including that of Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz-Beckham.

“Within our industry, there’s always a little banter of like, ‘Oh you know, this person’s doing this wedding, or this person’s doing this wedding,’ and that one had very few leaks” even among industry insiders, Patel added.

The Swift-Kelce wedding, The Times has reported, had a no-phones policy for guests, vendors and security. In Patel’s experience, for a wedding of this scale and caliber to stay private, staff members — from floral vendors to caterers, stationery designers to lighting contractors, photographers to tent providers — and even guests would likely have had to sign an airtight, blanket nondisclosure agreement with the wedding planning company, he said.

Patel said that for some weddings he had planned, his team would create decoy locations, including booking “an adjacent property somewhere” for deliveries. Then, on the big day, staff would check in at an off-site location and possibly receive a burner phone with no camera capabilities.

In the days leading up to Swift’s wedding, there was speculation that M.S.G. itself was the oh-so-subtle decoy plan but those theories were disproved when certain deliveries to the arena offered glimpses of garden-themed décor and a stream of black cars began arriving at the arena.

Of course, discretion isn’t new; John F. Kennedy Jr.’s secretive wedding to Carolyn Bessette in 1996 is one prime example of the ability of wealthy public figures to keep their private affairs, well, private — so much so that details about the Kennedy-Bessette wedding are still elusive to this day. That wedding required extreme measures, including flying guests to a remote island with no electricity in its chapel.

But the game of logistical Tetris to make this happen in the age of social media comes at a premium, which is exactly the point, Patel said. Under some standard N.D.A.s, vendors can’t ever say that they worked on a specific event, which means they can’t later use it as marketing for future clients. As a result, Patel added, his team charges more for taking on those types of events.

This level of concealment dovetails with a broader public discontent around the personal data sucked up from social media users to fill their feeds with algorithmic slop. Some high-end private members clubs and gyms have gone so far as to implement phone bans, effectively turning devices into the equivalent of pests.

In turn, images and videos from inside such events become a kind of currency, Griffith added. A handful of guests’ posts on social media featured Swift-Kelce wedding favors while other celebrities have taken to describing the event as some variation of “magical,” “beautiful” or “fun” but almost nothing specific from inside has been revealed.

The presence of film crews at M.S.G. set off rumors across the internet that Swift would turn her big day into a documentary. In the days after she tied the knot, Dior noted that even they weren’t told when Swift planned to reveal details of her wedding dress.

“The most exclusive thing about Swift’s 1,000-person wedding may turn out to be the photo album,” Griffiths said, “because privacy used to mean nobody knew what you were doing — but now it also means everybody knows what you did, but nobody gets to see it.”
