Martha Stewart rips people with ‘thick skulls’ who believe in work-life balance: ‘No such thing’

Working 9-5 is not in Martha Stewart’s wheelhouse, apparently.

The homemaking mogul, 85, revealed during a recent podcast appearance that she believes there is “no such thing” as “balance” when asked how she’s able to manage both her personal life with her empire.

“Just get that through your thick skulls. You can’t balance it, it doesn’t balance,” Stewart told financial expert Vivian Tu during a live taping of the “Richer Lives by SoFi” podcast.

“You’re gonna get divorced if you’re going to get divorced. You’re going to get married three times if you’re going to get married three times. It just doesn’t work out,” Stewart said.

“This thing about balance, I don’t know who thought about that, but it just does’t work. Maybe infrequently, and I’m jealous of those people, but they’re all so boring,” she added.

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time that the Martha Stewart Living founder has shared a similar sentiment.

In 2023, Stewart railed against work-from-home policies.

“You can’t possibly get everything done working three days a week in the office and two days remotely,” Stewart told Footwear News at the time.

“Look at the success of France with their stupid … you know, off for August, blah blah blah,” she continued. “That’s not a very thriving country. Should America go down the drain because people don’t want to go back to work?”

In 2013, she revealed that she doesn’t see a difference between her work life and her personal life.

“My life is my job, and my job is my life,” she said at the National Association of Professional Women’s networking conference, per Entrepreneur.

Stewart initially began her career working on Wall Street in the 60s before she decided to open a catering company from her kitchen in Westport, Connecticut. In 1982, she published her first book, which launched her booming career into entertaining.

In 2004, she was sentenced to a five-month term in a West Virginia prison after she was found guilty of four felony counts, including conspiracy and obstruction of justice, related to the sale of a stock.

She served five more months in home confinement as well as two years of supervised probation.

After returning from her stint behind bars, she launched a major career comeback, and has since revealed the jaw-dropping amount of moneyshe’s made on various deals over the years.
