By needlessly politicizing air traffic control, both parties unwittingly make the case for privatization.
Appealing to public anxieties about artificial intelligence, a group of Democratic lawmakers demanded on Oct. 9 that the Federal Aviation Administration pause the adoption of AI tools. The FAA has said these tools will assist, not replace, human controllers and offered lawmakers demonstrations of the technology. AI can help controllers make decisions faster and more accurately while easing burdens on the constantly short-staffed FAA. Pausing implementation does not put safety first.
