Yet another Republican who voted to support President Donald Trump’s war in Iran has been caught imploring supporters to chip in gas money for their campaign bus.
Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), currently running for Senate against Democrat Josh Turek, joins a list of several other Republicans who have made this request of their supporters, including Sens. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and Susan Collins (R-ME), and Georgia Senate candidate Mike Collins.
“Use this anger at the lies they’re telling about us on TV, because if they’re willing to lie about me, they’re willing to lie about you,” said Hinson. “So I want you to channel that into action in getting your friends out to vote, help give us a little gas money for our bus, make sure we’re showing up at the polls, because there is more to do.”
Her comments were swiftly posted to X, where they became a target for mockery.
“Another day, another example of Ashley Hinson being incredibly out-of-touch and tone deaf,” said Maggie Luddy, a communications official for the Turek campaign.
“Pro-Iran war GOP candidate begging for gas money,” said Maddy McDaniel, a communications staffer for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
“If you can’t afford your own gas, why not pay for mine!” said former chief Pentagon spokesperson Chris Meagher.
“GAS MONEY?!?!?! GIRL WHAT?!?!? You support the war. Tell Trump to give you some gas money,” wrote political commentator Nikki Barnes.
