Danger ahead.
With Halloween just around the corner, California drivers should look out for these super spooky streets, including one long road that runs straight through the City of Angles.
California is home to two of the most haunted roads in the world, at least according to believers in the paranormal (and two new rankings).
Tucked between Northern California’s Coloma and Garden Valley, Prospector’s Road has a haunted history dating back to the gold rush. Its name originates from the prospectors who traveled to California in search of gold in the mid 19th century.
Local legend says the three-mile road is haunted by the ghost of a miner who bragged about his claim one night at a local saloon, and was murdered by jealous fellow miners.

His ghost, which is said to be tall and bearded, now haunts the unassuming road, and has been heard telling lurkers, “Get off my claim.”
“In the 1800s several gold discoveries happened in the hills that Prospector’s Road runs through. Sadly this also meant that several gold miners lost their lives performing the hard work that went along with mining their claims,” Weird California writes. “Stories of cave ins, bandit attacks, suicides, etc. were not uncommon to those who worked the mines in this area.”
Route 66, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, is one of the most famous roads in the world. The 2,448 mile highway stretches across much of the U.S. from Chicago to Los Angeles, where a haunted hotel sits at the end of the road.
First opened in 1933, Santa Monica’s The Georgian Hotel is the site of many ghost legends. The hotel’s Speakeasy restaurant is said to be especially haunted.

“It has been said many times that when the restaurant is completely empty, employees have heard loud sighs and gasps and have been startled by a disembodied voice that greets them with a cheery “Good Morning,”” LA Ghost Tour writes.
“At other times, the sounds of running footsteps are heard throughout the restaurant when no one is there, and a number of transparent, full-bodied apparitions have been seen throughout the property.”
