The midterm polls that caught our eye this week

Surveys released this week offered new insights on how Americans might make decisions in the midterm elections. Methodology, including sample sizes and margins of errors, are available in the links to these polls:

Trump’s ratings decline among his own voters

A Pew Research Center poll that found Trump’s job approval rating sinking stands out for finding the drop is concentrated among his own voters.

Pew found 67 percent of confirmed Trump 2024 voters approve of his performance today, down from 95 percent in February 2025. The president’s approval ratings dropped to 57 percent among Hispanic Trump voters and 49 percent among Trump voters under age 35.

How swing state voters are choosing senators

Two CNN polls asked a unique question on how voters are choosing their next senator: What’s most important, “positions on the issues,” “character and experience,” or “which party controls the U.S. Senate”?

In Ohio, 40 percent of likely voters said they were making their Senate choice based on control of the chamber, while 39 percent prioritized stances on issues and 21 percent were focused on character or experience.

In Iowa, candidates’ positions ranked at 47 percent, while Senate control ranked second at 35 percent and character and experience ranked third.
