Man Dies After Entering Tiger Enclosure at Wildlife Park in England

A man has died after he entered a tiger enclosure at an animal attraction and was attacked by a Siberian tiger in Yorkshire, England, on Saturday, according to the police and park officials.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement that they received reports of a man entering the tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park at 1:35 p.m. local time.

“The tiger subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury,” the statement said, adding that “despite the best efforts of medical personnel,” the man died at the scene.

The man’s identity was not released, but the police said his family was aware and receiving support from the department.

Video surfaced on social media showing a man in a dark long-sleeve shirt and light-colored pants close to a tiger, which at one point grabs and bites him near the middle of his back. The tiger lunges at the man repeatedly and faces him before tapping him a few times with its front paws.

The police said they are aware of multiple videos of the event circulating online and encouraged people not to share the footage.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s website describes it as “the U.K.’s No. 1 walk-through wildlife adventure.”

“We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened,” the park said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our visitors, staff and animals remain our highest priority.”

The tiger enclosure is described as a 300-meter-long raised walkway, which runs through what is called the “Land of the Tigers.” The website also says that the tiger in the exhibit is an endangered Amur tiger, which is also known as a Siberian tiger. The other big-cat exhibits at the park feature lions, cheetahs and leopards.

The animal was uninjured and remained in the enclosure after the fatal encounter with no wider risk to the public, the authorities said.

The park was evacuated and closed on Saturday. It will remain closed through Sunday.

There have been other instances of people entering wildlife enclosures and sustaining serious or fatal injuries.

In June, a boy was critically injured after he was forced into a crocodile enclosure outside Cambridge, also in England. In 2025, a tiger handler was fatally mauled by a tiger in Oklahoma. And in 2021, a man who worked for a cleaning service at the Naples Zoo in Florida was seriously injured when a tiger bit his arm after he went into a restricted area and reached into the animal’s enclosure.
