Alexandr Wang says don’t expect Muse to magically make you $10,000

  • Meta’s chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, is aware that people want Muse to make them money.
  • He said he finds it “funny” how people will prompt Meta’s AI agent to make them $10,000.
  • Have you used Meta’s AI agent yet? What do you think?

Meta’s chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, says he plans to improve Muse, but users will have to work a little, too, if they want the agent to make them money.

“We always want to figure out how to make the agents better. And then we want them to be able to continue doing more and more complex tasks,” Wang told Cleo Abram during a recent interview for Abram’s “Huge Conversations” show.

Wang was describing the viral prompts that some users are giving Meta’s popular AI agent to make them X amount of money.

“I find this really funny, but there’s a lot of people who will just ask their Muse, ‘I want you to make me $10,000.’ And, obviously, not everyone can just ask their Muse to make them $10,000.”

He added, “You’re going to have to do your part if you want to make $10,000.”

Wang previously encouraged users to use Muse to find such savings as part of his #musemoneychallenge, but asking Muse to make money is on a different level.

Meta’s goal, Wang said, is to continue to improve Muse’s memory so it can help users tackle more complex tasks.

“The memory of the agents is not like that of a human,” he said. “Sometimes it can feel like it’s like that, but it is really different. So that’s one area where we’re always trying to improve.”

Muse has proven to be a major hit for Wang’s Superintelligence Labs team. A month after its release, Muse remains No. 1 among free apps on the Apple App Store, a crown that has often been held by OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Wang said that Meta wanted to find a way to bring “the magic” that developers have seen when they used agents and make it more accessible to the masses.

“Most of the industry has been really focused on making them just better and better and better at coding,” he said. “But we really felt this was a big gap because most people in the world, they don’t know how to code. They probably never even want to code.”

Part of Meta’s focus for Muse will be figuring out how to make an agentic product sustainable.

Wang noted that Meta is already offering subscription tiers. There’s speculation around whether the company could also bring ads into the agentic service, perhaps similar to how OpenAI has rolled out advertising for its Free and Go plans. Wang said that Meta isn’t discussing ads that much.

“I wouldn’t say we’re spending that much time thinking about ads necessarily right now,” he said.

Other business models may concern the $10,000 you asked Muse to make for you.

“If they’re buying things using Muse, or Muse is saving them money, or Muse is making them money, figuring out a way to take some small fee on those kinds of transactions,” he said.
