Nick Reiner ‘glared’ at prosecutors in latest murder hearing amid shocking new twist in security measures

Accused murderer Nick Reiner “glared” at prosecutors in his latest court hearing as he faces charges for the December 2025 murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.

And unlike his past hearings, the 33-year-old was not handcuffed to his chair when he returned to Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday.

His hands were, however, individually cuffed as he sat beside his public defender, Kimberly Greene, whispering to her before the hearing began.

Page Six observed Nick tilting his head from side to side as he sat calmly. He seemed disinterested in the proceedings and even appeared bored.

Nick — who wore a brown shirt atop a white long-sleeved thermal and brown pants — also glared at the prosecution several times.

He appeared to have maintained the weight he had gained ahead of his last appearance in mid-September and sported the same bit of facial stubble with his previously short hair grown out.

Wednesday’s hearing centered on whether grand jury transcripts and exhibits from the proceedings that led to Nick’s indictment should be made public.

Judge Sam Ohta did not reveal his decision, instead opting to continue the hearing on Oct. 21.

Nick’s court appearance comes three weeks after Page Six observed him looking healthy seemingly gaining weight since his previous court appearance in April.

At the Sept. 15 hearing, Nick appeared “emotionless” and “eerily calm,” with longer hair combed to the side and facial stubble.

The “Being Charlie” co-writer kept his focus on Ohta during that hearing, answering “yes” when asked whether he understood he was waiving his right to a speedy trial and at one point thanking the judge.

As Page Six previously reported, Nick marked his first birthday behind bars last month at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility.

He received “no special treatment” from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as he turned 33.

While Nick’s family stayed away from court Wednesday, his siblings — Jake and Romy Reiner — have been actively involved behind the scenes in matters surrounding their parents’ murder case.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced shortly before Nick’s last hearing last that prosecutors will not seek the death penalty if he is convicted of killing Rob and Michele.

Hochman said his office reached the decision after reviewing aggravating and mitigating factors and consulting with prosecutors, law enforcement and the victims’ family.

However, the DA did not disclose what punishment Jake, 35, and Romy, 28, wanted prosecutors to pursue.

With capital punishment off the table, Nick faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.

Nick was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of his dad and mom inside their Brentwood home.

The indictment also included special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and “lying in wait,” along with an allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon, a knife.

Nick was arrested shortly after Rob and Michele were found dead and has remained in jail without bail.

Nick — who was diagnosed with schizophrenia before the killings and has a long history of drug addiction — has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Hochman previously said he does not expect Nick’s trial to begin before 2027, explaining that the defense is still reviewing discovery and additional material is expected to be turned over in the coming weeks.
