Everyone is talking about Amazon’s October Prime Day. Good deals or not—maybe you don’t want to shop at Amazon for whatever reason. Plenty of other stores, big and small, are hosting sales alongside Amazon this week. Everything below is hand-tested by WIRED, and doesn’t have to be purchased on Amazon. You do you.
Great Tech Deals Being Price-Matched
This $179 price is being matched at Best Buy. If you want the best wireless earbuds for iPhone, you want the AirPods Pro 3. They have great noise cancellation and even built-in heart rate sensing and live translation.
These are on sale for just $30 more than their lowest price ever at both Walmart and Best Buy. The AirPods Max 2 are still pricey, with less battery life and software features than we’d like. But there’s no denying that they’re stylish, and the sound quality isn’t bad either.
This new Kindle is being price-matched at Best Buy. It has an impressive 11-inch color display and can double as a digital notebook thanks to the included stylus.
The trackable version of this MagSafe wallet is on sale via the Shop app, which is the version I’d recommend if you can swing it. Being able to track down your wallet in Apple’s Find My app is well worth the extra investment. It’s secure and doubles as a kickstand.
It’s a few years old, but we’ve never seen the Sonos Beam Gen 2 drop to prices this low. These have been personally tested by our own audio expert, Harry Rabinowitz, who has complimented its excellent sound quality and compact footprint. And fortunately, Sonos and Best Buy have matched the Amazon discount, giving you some other options. —Luke Larsen
Here’s one of the few deals this week that are actually cheaper this week than they are on Amazon. I love this water bottle. It’s sitting next to me right now! It keeps drinks icy cold all day, and it has stayed colorfast, tou should hand-wash it if possible to preserve the finish. I like the large capacity too since I don’t have to refill it as often. It’s half-off on Shop, a great deal compared to what we usually see.
This down comforter keeps me warm year-round and plenty toasty in winter. It’s fluffy and warm, with a cozy shell that never lets any feathers poke through. It isn’t very heavy, but it is very good at insulating you.
If you’d prefer a more starchy shell, this down comforter has a touch more stiffness than the pick recommended above. It feels more dense than lofty, which is better if you prefer a bit of a heavier blanket, and I like that the feathers don’t shift around so it never feels too airy. That transversely means it can feel a little bit too warm if you sleep hot, so go for the Quince if that’s the case.
Shop Books, Locally
Amazon was first and foremost a book-selling store, so why not stick it to the man by buying your next book from Bookshop.com? It’s an online book shop that lets you purchase online from local bookstores. And in celebration of anti-Prime Day, it’s offering free shipping today and tomorrow. It’s a great way to support independent bookstores and save on shipping fees to get physical copies of your favorites or your to-be-read pile.
I personally shop there when I want a physical book but don’t want to leave my house to purchase it. It’s also a good option for picking up gift books without needing to visit multiple stores.
