President Donald Trump fired back at Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) on Saturday after the Arkansas Republican openly defied the commander in chief.
On Friday, Trump singled Cotton out for being among the lone holdouts on the Sunshine Protection Act, a bill that would make daylight saving time permanent. Cotton responded to Trump’s attack on Saturday, openly defying the president and vowing to remain opposed to the bill.
On Saturday afternoon, Trump clapped back at Cotton for his open defiance, mocking his support among voters, criticizing him for his “ego,” and demanding that he “take the win” and end his opposition to the Sunshine Protection Act.
“If Tom Cotton were putting Arkansas first, he would give them an extra hour of daylight and, more importantly, they wouldn’t have to run all over their houses, farms, work places, and everywhere else, twice a year, having to change their Clocks, and often forgetting to do so,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
“That is really putting Arkansas FIRST, and I know, because, unlike Tom, I won that Great State, three times, and by almost 40 points!”
Trump concluded his 369-word online post by demanding that Cotton back down.
“TAKE THE WIN TOM, JUST TAKE THE WIN!” Trump wrote. “YOU NEED IT, AND SO DOES OUR BELOVED REPUBLICAN PARTY! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
