President Donald Trumpis completely losing touch with reality and looking for anyone to validate his greatness as the American public turns on him, MS NOW’s Jen Psaki said on Thursday evening.
It’s likely the impetus for his upcoming cryptocurrency deal — but even there, she said, there are signs this is failing him too.
Psaki started with the heated interview with Trump in Time Magazine. “If you read that, it sure seems like Donald Trump is untethered from reality, as confused as he’s ever been, and based on his campaign schedule and deep red parts of the country, it also seems like Donald Trump has basically thrown in the towel on the midterms and just wants to hear someone, anyone out there, anyone clap for him. And when he’s not perplexed by the job that he’s supposed to be doing, he is simply disinterested in the job he’s supposed to be doing.”
Under normal circumstances, Psaki said, a president starting down such a loss would be making plans to negotiate in a divided government. But instead, he’s planning yet more crypto shenanigans.
“Last night, the company behind Trump’s crypto meme coin announced a competition for a seat at what they called the most exclusive dinner in the world. And guess what, everybody. In November, the top 185 investors in Trump’s meme coin will get to attend an evening with the guy in this photo who is supposed to be Donald Trump.” She placed the image on the screen, noting it looked very little like Trump and was heavily AI-generated.
“For anyone looking to attend this dinner out there, I can assure you this is not the man you’ll meet,” she said, comparing it to a “catfishing” dating profile photo.
“You might remember that Trump has pulled this stunt twice before, once last year and again at a luncheon in April. And both times the stunt kind of worked,” said Psaki. “After announcing the competition, the price of Trump’s meme coin, at least for a little bit, surged. In both instances, the coin’s trading value shot up by more than 50 percent in just around 24 hours.”
This time, however, even that doesn’t seem to be working, said Psaki.
“The bounce it got today was pretty negligible,” she said. It only went from trading at roughly $2 a coin to $2.20 a coin. Likely, she noted, because investors have gotten wise to the pump-and-dump nature of Trump’s meme coin, it’s “not the rocket fuel that it used to be.”
