President Donald Trump’s latest campaign swing through Texas was a rambling mess delivered to a sparse audience, according to a progressive commentator.
On Thursday’s episode of “The MeidasTouch Podcast,” host Ben Meiselas said Trump “just wrapped up a disastrous speech in Texas in front of a very small low-energy crowd.”
Trump, stumping for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Senate bid, went after Paxton’s Democratic opponent, state Rep. James Talarico, over his diet.
“He doesn’t eat meat. He’s a vegan. And vegans, you know what a vegan is? Vegans don’t do well in Texas,” Trump said. “So now he goes to a barbecue, he eats meat. You know what he does after he eats? He says, ‘Excuse me,’…He goes behind the tent and he throws up.”
Meiselas mocked the pitch, saying Trump argued Talarico “can’t stand meat and so that is why you need to vote Ken Paxton.”
“And it got way more deranged from there,” Meiselas said. “Then Donald Trump says affordability is a scam and that Democrats and the media made up this fake word affordability to try to hurt Donald Trump and to try to hurt Ken Paxton.”
“Remember they came up with the word affordability,” Trump said. “They always come up with these words, affordability. So the fake news starts using it because they’re partners with the Democrats.”
He added, “Everyone thinks that the prices are high because of me, but they’re not. We’re the ones bringing down the prices.”
Trump then recounted a physical exam from Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), his former White House physician.
“He was a doctor. He looked me over. He checked me out. I don’t like when men check me out at all,” Trump said. “But we didn’t have to worry about Ronnie. I can tell.”
“Words don’t describe the depths of the lunacy that we just observed,” Meiselas said.
