Late Night Is Stunned by Trump’s New Stereotype

Welcome to Late Night Roundup, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.

Don’t Fall For It

President Trump hosted a reception for Hispanic Heritage Month at the White House on Wednesday — “which he definitely did because he loves them so much, and not because he’s losing their support right before the midterms,” Jordan Klepper said on Thursday’s “The Daily Show.”

“And if you didn’t know, it actually goes from Sept. 15th to October 15th. It’s nice to see at least our calendar still allows Hispanics to cross a border.” — JORDAN KLEPPER

“During the Hispanic Heritage Month event, President Trump said he was going to talk about the incredible Hispanics and added, ‘You know there’s lots of different names: Latinos. They call them so many different names.’ Luckily his aides cut him off before he could say what they were.” — SETH MEYERS

“President Trump held a Hispanic Heritage Month event yesterday at the White House, and then later he asked Duolingo what ‘el diablo’ means.” — SETH MEYERS

The president invited attendees to tour the construction site of his ballroom, warning them to be careful not to fall over the edge. “Only a Hispanic could survive that fall,” he said.

“I’m sorry, what? Is that a racial stereotype I’m not aware of, that Hispanics are good at surviving long falls? Although for a man who started out labeling Hispanics as murderers and rapists, to end up at ‘bouncy’ — that’s progress, OK?” — JORDAN KLEPPER

“You’ve gotta be a platinum level racist to come out with stereotypes no one has ever heard before.” — SETH MEYERS

“‘Only a Hispanic could survive that fall’? Are you thinking of cats?” — SETH MEYERS

“Don’t fall for it, guys. He’s obviously trying to trick you into finishing the construction.” — JORDAN KLEPPER

The Punchiest Punchlines (Palmer Luckey Edition)

“Wow, I’m sorry, this human vape pen is a military consultant? I didn’t expect to see this guy working with the military. I expect to see him as the youngest person at a Jimmy Buffett concert. Or the oldest person at a Wiggles concert.” — JORDAN KLEPPER, referring to Palmer Luckey, the founder of the defense tech start-up Anduril

“Now if you’re wondering, how did Gamestop Qaddafi even get his start? Well, he actually invented the Oculus VR headset when he was only 19. And that’s him. This guy invented V.R. goggles when he was only a teenager, despite being totally busy with, like, tons of parties he was invited to.” — JORDAN KLEPPER

“Pete Hegseth put Tommy Bahama in charge of our military.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“I love when they introduce a new character. I don’t know if there’s a Mrs. Luckey, but I will assure you, she’s not.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

The Bits Worth Watching

John Oliver and Seth Meyers joined Jimmy Kimmel for his “Live” broadcast from Brooklyn on Thursday night.
