Will Reeve reveals first sign of testicular cancer — and how he nearly dismissed it as ‘nothing’

Will Reeve opened up about nearly dismissing a “tender lump” on his testicle before he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

“At some point in April, I noticed something was off in the shower,” the ABC News correspondent, 34, told People in an interview published Tuesday.

“I was concerned, but figured that it would pass,” he added. “As is common for young, healthy men like myself, I assumed it was nothing or that it would go away.”

Will — who lost his mom, Dana Reeve, to lung cancer in 2006, two years after his dad, Christopher Reeve, died at 52 — noticed the lump was still there weeks later.

It wasn’t until his wife, Amanda Dublin Reeve, “urged” him to get an ultrasound that he discovered it was a mass.

“I learned in real time that I would need an orchiectomy, which is the removal of the testicle,” the reporter told the outlet.

“It turns out when a man has a mass in that part of the body, you cannot do a biopsy for fear of it being cancerous and then the needle of the biopsy spreading cancer,” Will said.

The journalist underwent surgery 10 days later, and he recalled being “more nervous about the unknown of the surgery rather than the overwhelming realization that [he] would be losing an essential part of [his] body forever.”

The results showed that 95 percent of his condition was embryonal carcinoma, a “rare form of testicular cancer” with “a type of tumor that consists of abnormal germ cells — the cells that eventually mature into sperm,” per Cleveland Clinic.

On June 10, Will had dozens of lymph nodes removed from his abdomen during a six-hour surgery. Three of the lymph nodes were positive for cancer.

“I realized that this was going to be a longer journey than I had anticipated,” Will said.

After the procedures, the TV personality completed two rounds of chemotherapy and was declared cancer-free on Sept. 8.

Will kept his cancer journey a secret, revealing it on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday. He explained in detail how his symptoms included bone pain, ringing ears, constant headaches, night sweats and blood clots.

During the segment, he credited a cold-capping method with preventing him from losing hair during treatment.

He also shared how he banked sperm so he and his wife can undergo in vitro fertilization to start a family in the future.

Reeve and Dublin tied the knot in January alongside their friends and family at the Rubell Museum in Miami, Florida, after getting engaged in November 2024.
