President Donald Trump took it upon himself Saturday to issue a report on the U.S. economy — arguing that the “Fake News refuses to do it” — while also lamenting his perceived lack of credit for the recent economic milestones.
“The American People elected me to deliver HISTORIC Economic Results, and now, I have a new responsibility, reporting our incredible results because the Fake News refuses to do it,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
Trump went on to cite several economic data points, including accelerated U.S. business growth, rising household incomes and record-low poverty levels under the Census Bureau’s official measure.
“If anyone else were President, this would be all the Media would talk about. But because no one ever wants to give me credit, no one is talking about these Historic Numbers,” Trump continued.
“The FAKE NEWS and DUMOCRATS hate these reports, and these Record Setting Numbers. They hate the TRUTH, and they hate the Great Success that our Country is having. Just look at the Numbers — THE BEST IN HISTORY.”
Trump also issued a pitch to voters ahead of the midterms, in which recent polls have shown Republicans in an increasingly dire position to hold their congressional majorities.
“VOTE FOR REPUBLICAN AND ‘TRUMP’ CANDIDATES IN THE MIDTERMS,” Trump wrote. “WE HAVE ALREADY MADE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, BUT NOW WE WILL REACH NEW LEVELS OF GREATNESS. IT IS MY HONOR TO BE YOUR PRESIDENT, DURING SUCH AN EXCITING TIME!”
