Mary Trump, who is both President Donald Trump’s niece and a clinical psychologist, thinks her uncle won’t hold up now that major news outlets are pulling back from covering him.
She made the prediction in a conversation with Wajahat Ali on his show “The Left Hook,” which she shared Thursday on her Substack, The Good in Us. Ali asked her what happens to a narcissist when “no one is talking about him.”
“I think he is not going to be able to last,” she said. “He is not going to be able to withstand it.”
She said she recently posted a clip of Trump talking with no press pool and no microphones in front of him, and captioned it with one word: “Paradise.”
“I think people are going to find out what a pleasure it is not to have to listen to him,” she said.
She also said Trump made things worse for himself when he revoked the credentials of reporters from CNN, MS Now and Politico.
“The guy literally banned three major news organizations the other day, depriving himself of a microphone,” she said. “This is not a sane or measured thing to do.”
Mary Trump said even friendly outlets have started to shift. According to her, Fox News and Newsmax are “starting to tell people what is actually happening,” and that coverage will reach her uncle and make him “even more desperate.”
“There is only so much you can protect a person who is as extremely online as he is from the reality of the numbers,” she said.
She predicted he’ll lash out more on Truth Social and turn to outlets that are “still willing to publish his lies.”
She also went further back than the current moment. Plenty of people have asked what would have happened if Trump had been denied a platform in 2015. She asked about 1979 instead.
“We would have been spared so much horror,” she said.
