Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s warning about furries in the airline industry has run into two Community Notes after he offered meowing pilots and a convention meetup as evidence.
“I know the deranged Democrats don’t like the fact that I called out the insane FURRY CULTURE this week,” the Alabama MAGA senator wrote Friday on X. He claimed an “ALARMING number” of furries work in aviation.
“Don’t believe me? Just a few months ago, PILOTS were MEOWING and BARKING at each other over the radio at DCA,” he added.
But his claim was quickly hit with a Community Note on X that said the noises were part of a “longstanding aviation joke” on the emergency frequency and offered no evidence that the people making them were furries, MeidasTouch reported Friday.
“Such noises have been common for years as pranks,” the Community Note said.
Tuberville tried a second example a short time later.
“Just a few weeks ago at the ‘Furry Migration’ convention in Minneapolis, there was an ‘Aviation Furs Meet-up,’” he wrote on X. “Ask yourself… would you be comfortable with a MENTALLY ILL FURRY being your pilot?”
That post also received a Community Note. It said pilots must meet medical requirements and that “being part of the furry fandom or playing dress-up is not listed” as a disqualifying condition.
