Fox News admitted Tuesday that Democrats appear headed for a “blue wave” driven more by voters turning against President Donald Trump than by enthusiasm for the Democratic Party.
Democrats now lead Republicans by 11 points among likely voters — 53% to 42% — according to polling averages cited in the network’s latest Power Rankings.
“That’s a larger and more consistent lead than the GOP had this time four years ago,” according to the network. “These polls suggest that we’re heading for a ‘blue wave’ like the one Democrats rode eight years ago.”
The Fox News report on Tuesday offered an even more blunt assessment of the political damage caused by Trump’s war with Iran and gas prices that have surged to $4.48 per gallon.
“Trump’s worst ratings have been on inflation and the cost of living, and 61% of voters called gas prices a ‘major problem’ in last week’s Fox News Poll,” the network said.
The election is looking “less like an embrace of Democrats than a rejection of Trump’s agenda,” Fox News reported.
The assessment comes as the network shifted 17 House races toward Democrats and projected the party would secure 215 seats before accounting for 19 contests rated as toss-ups.
“On a ‘good night’ for Democrats, which would see them win all of those toss-up races, they’d take up to 234 seats, leaving the Republicans with 201,” Fox News reported.
The network also found Republicans losing ground with Hispanic voters, and shifted Kansas from “Likely Republican” to “Lean Republican” despite not electing a Democratic senator in 94 years.
“As we enter fall, Democrats are enjoying their widest polling lead of the year,” Fox News concluded.
