The investigation into Prada manager Chiara Jaconis’s death has been reopened, two years after she was allegedly killed by a 13-year-old boy who hurled a statue off a balcony – as her mom says she’s “still waiting for justice.”
Jaconis, 30, died from the severe injuries she sustained while on vacation after she was struck in the head by the object in Naples, Italy, in September 2024.
On Thursday, an Italian court ordered the case to be reopened as they try to piece together how she was killed, while no one has been convicted of her death, La Repubblica reported.
Judges on Italy’s Juvenile Court of Appeals have ordered a ballistics assessment to take place, which aims to work out what type of statuette was used to kill Jaconis.
The order came after investigators found that two statuettes fell from a height on the day Jaconis was killed – a 4.85-pound statuette of Pharaoh Akhenaten and a 10-pound bust of Queen Nefertiti.
Investigators have been unable to conclude which statuette struck the tourist, who was in Naples celebrating her 30th birthday.
This week marked two years since Jaconis’ death – and her mom, Cristina Venturi, remains steadfast in getting answers.
“Two years have passed and we are still waiting for justice,” she told Il Gazettino. “We are calling for accountability and for Chiara to receive the justice she deserves.
“No verdict can bring Chiara back to us, but justice is the only thing left for us to ask for.”
Venturi shared a throwback picture of her daughter online and wrote, “Two years without you… without your smiles [and] without your gestures.”
Jaconis, from Padua, was struck by the object, which fell around 32 feet, while she was hauling her luggage through Naples’ Spanish Quarters en route to the airport with her boyfriend, Livio Rousseau.
Cops investigating said the statuette was pushed off a third-floor balcony by a 13-year-old boy – but he was not held criminally responsible due to his age under Italian law.
In Italy, children under 14 cannot be held criminally responsible.
The boy’s parents have been charged with manslaughter after prosecutors said they failed to supervise him.
Prosecutors claimed the parents “failed to strengthen the locks” to prevent their son from accessing the balcony in the first place.
They were also accused of not taking the appropriate precautions – despite knowing about his tendency to throw items.
The boy previously hurled tablets, a remote control for an air conditioning unit, and clothespins from a height, according to prosecutors.
The boy’s parents have always strongly denied any wrongdoing.
Jaconis had worked for Prada since October 2022 and managed 15 stores across France, Monaco and Belgium, according to her LinkedIn.
She previously worked for the fashion brands L’Oréal, Givenchy, and Christian Louboutin in Paris.
