‘It’s a palace!’ Trump boasts about White House renovations as GOP in-fighting roils DC

President Donald Trump boasted to his Facebook followers about turning the White House into a “palace” Wednesday as a hostile Republican fight erupted in the House of Representatives.

The 80-year-old president celebrated the completion of a new granite helipad on the White House South Lawn on Wednesday, as House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) enraged his colleagues by calling an early recess — and avoided Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-KY) impeachment resolution against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

“It is magnificently made of carved granite in shades of Black and White,” Trump posted on Facebook. “It is truly a work of art and, even the Trump Haters are saying, ‘Wow, that’s really good!’ It was completed ahead of schedule, under budget and, again, though expensive, was a Gift to America!”

Trump boasted that he had also replaced asphalt at the main entrance with “essentially indestructible” white granite rated at “1 million years,” and promised “no cracks, or defacement, EVER!”

“The Heliport path travels directly into the Main Entrance where the green entrance doors, from what was years ago a maintenance area, were changed to White House White with new, highest level hardware, locks, and hinges,” he posted. “It is an Honor, ‘in my spare time,’ to bring back the Beauty and Magnificence of the White House, to levels it has never seen before, not even after its construction in 1792.”

“Like our Nation, under the Dumocrats, was in decline, the White House was a badly maintained ‘dump,’” Trump added. “Now, it is a Palace!”

The helipad is one of the numerous construction projects Trump has pursued in Washington, alongside a renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, a proposed 250-foot triumphal arch and a massive White House ballroom.

Trump has said the helipad cost roughly $5 to $6 million and is being paid for by Sikorsky Aircraft, a Lockheed Martin subsidiary, which he said felt “a little guilty” for not warning him about the force of the wind produced by the presidential helicopter fleet it built in 2024.

A Lockheed Martin spokesperson has said the company made a contribution to the National Park Service and that its work with the administration follows “rigorous ethics and compliance standards.”

Meanwhile, Massie and Republicans senators fumed at Trump’s White House, with one unnamed GOP candidate accusing the White House of “putting a noose around all of our necks.”
