Trump adviser begs GOP senator to ‘please stay off’ television after disastrous interview

Alex Bruesewitz, a prominent adviser to President Donald Trump, issued a plea to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Saturday to “please stay off” television following a disastrous interview in which young Texans viciously booed the GOP lawmaker.

Cruz sat down with ESPN’s “College GameDay” ahead of the University of Texas-Austin Longhorns and the Ohio State Buckeyes football match, but throughout the 10-minute-long interview, young sports fans could be heard chanting “Ted, you suck” and other taunts. Online critics were quick to join in on the mockery of Cruz, leading Bruesewitz to issue his plea.

“, we’re trying to win elections over here bro,” Bruesewitz wrote Saturday in a social media post on X to his more than 684,000 followers. “That means attracting more young voters, not driving them away. Your appearances on mainstream television act as a repellent to our efforts. Please stay off it. Respectfully.”

Cruz was on set to promote the Protect College Sports Act, a bipartisan bill that would create a national framework for regulating college athletics and is scheduled for a Senate vote next week. But the senator could barely get in a word as chants drowned him out at the University of Texas-Austin campus, which gave Cruz less than 20% of the vote in his 2024 election.

Cruz has long had aspirations to become president, launching his first bid for the White House in 2015. Those aspirations reportedly hadn’t waned, with speculation growing that Cruz may be gearing up for a 2028 run.

The Trump administration has already taken notice. According to NOTUS, Trump administration officials believe Cruz is “working to undermine Trump” directly due to his “2028 ambitions,” and were “not happy about it.”
