A bizarre RNC midterm convention video depicting President Donald Trump as a divine figure left countless critics disturbed — but when pressed for comment, pro-Trump pastors and faith leaders gave a telling response, Zeteo’s Asawin Suebsaeng reported.
The roughly two-and-a-half-minute-long video features a montage of clips of the president as a narrator claims that “God gave us Trump” to fill the role of Earth’s “caretaker.” Suebsaeng, who was reporting from the event, said the entire convention left him troubled, but the video struck him as especially “unsettling.”
“We constantly cover how the modern-day Republican Party is just a cult now, worshipping a mentally deteriorating madman and former game show host,” Suebsaeng wrote. “According to the party’s big, official 2026 messaging event, ‘God gave us Trump,’ a man so awesome and powerful he delivered his own grandkid.”
Out of curiosity, Suebsaeng said he asked several pro-Trump religious leaders at the event — including Dallas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, who said the 9/11 attacks were God’s punishment for abortion, according to Salon — whether they found the video “religiously appropriate.”
“These men of God either didn’t respond,” Suebsaeng wrote, “or claimed they didn’t see it.”
Trump has amassed support from a number of prominent pastors, some of whom have heavily influenced his administration. Trump has also faced scrutiny during his second administration for depicting himself in a divine manner, including a social media post from earlier this year in which he shared an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus Christ, though Trump insisted that he believed the image depicted him as a Red Cross-affiliated doctor.
“The message from the RNC and Team Trump seemed clear: The president is our god-king, and you should let him rule you like one,” Suebsaeng wrote. “What a winning campaign message for GOP candidates in competitive races!”
Wow — RNC video: “On June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker,’ so God gave us Trump.” It only gets more unhinged and culty from there. pic.twitter.com/ODodFGc43k — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) September 11, 2026
