Attorney General Todd Blanche offered a full-blown political screed at the Dallas GOP convention on Wednesday night — punctuating his speech with a threat of continued legal crackdowns.
Throughout his speech, Blanche defended some of the Trump administration’s most controversial moves, like its deportation of immigrants and its attempts to squash dissent. He also called out “evil men and women” that the Trump administration was prepared to go after, like drug dealers and sex traffickers.
“If you choose violence, you will be held accountable,” Blanche said.
He also closed his speech with what appeared to be a threat.
“Americans, thank you for choosing to make our country safe again,” said Blanche to general applause. “Now, we are just getting started.”
Even before being confirmed to his role on a permanent basis, Blanche has been accused of weaponizing Justice Department law enforcement for political purposes, authorizing partisan investigations and indictments of President Donald Trump’s critics and enemies.
One of the most notable is the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, who is accused of making violent threats against the president solely for posting a social media image of seashells.
