Maria Bartiromo finally broke her silence one week after Fox News abruptly announced it was parting ways with the longtime anchor, hinting on social media that her story is far from over.
“I love you all and I promise to be back soon,” Bartiromo wrote in an Instagram post Thursday, thanking fans for their support and signing off with a nod to her dog, Dusty. She posted a similar message on X, attaching a sunset photo and promising “more to come.”
Notably absent from either post: any mention of her husband, Wall Street executive Jonathan Steinberg. Several conservative media figures did show up in the comments, including Fox hosts Lara Trump and Martha MacCallum, along with Newsmax personalities and even a comment from Breitbart.
Bartiromo’s exit has been shrouded in confusion since Fox’s terse announcement last week that she was “no longer with Fox News Media,” a statement that came without warning after she’d already been absent from her programs for nearly a month. Her attorney, Bryan Freedman, has flatly denied she was fired, calling reports to that effect false and threatening to prove it “whether through the courthouse or otherwise.”
According to Status, the split may actually trace back to Bartiromo alerting Trump’s team that Fox leadership had privately barred hosts from airing more of the president’s election-fraud claims the day after one of his speeches leaned further into them. Mediaite reported additional factors were likely at play too, pointing to behind-the-scenes friction over how her shows should be run. Fox didn’t waste time moving on either, renaming her former program from “Mornings with Maria” to “FOX Business News” the very next day, though fill-in host Cheryl Casone appeared to slip and use the old title on air.
Trump himself seemed blindsided by the news, gushing on Truth Social about Bartiromo’s ratings and calling her “a total professional, and a true warrior.” Trump adviser Peter Navarro went further, publicly accusing Fox of censoring MAGA voices without her, writing that the network is now left with a lineup of people unwilling to take the same risks she did.
