DALLAS — As counterprogramming to Republicans’ two-day midterm convention — in which they are heavily touting President Donald Trump’s achievements — a handful of House Democrats descended upon Dallas to speak about their investigations into the president and their long-standing investigation into convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
On Wednesday, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-California), the top Democrat in the House Oversight Committee, stopped by an art exhibition featuring the work of Annie Farmer, who accused Epstein of sexual assault. Garcia, who has led House Democrats’ charge in demanding the Justice Department release documents related to the Epstein investigation, told The Washington Post that Trump is “throwing a two-day party to himself, for all his donor friends, while people struggle and they can’t afford gas, groceries.”
“We’re here to make that contrast clear,” he said.
As part of the Democratic response to Republicans’ convention, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) sent Garcia and other top House Democrats, including Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colorado) of the Armed Services Committee and Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-California) from the Judiciary Committee, to talk to Texas voters about Democratic efforts to flip the House, reduce costs and launch investigations into Trump and his allies. The House Democrats will hold a news conference Thursday morning as Republicans kick off Day 2 of their convention.
“Rather than taking a single step to lower costs, MAGA extremists are partying with their super rich donors in Dallas,” Jeffries said in a statement.
