One of the first humiliations for Republicans at the Dallas midterm convention came early, when one of the “L”s in the word “Dallas” fell off the podium for the main speaker.
The image of the missing L, which went viral on X Wednesday evening, got immediate mockery from commenters on social media, with Democratic politicians and groups in particular seizing on the moment to crack jokes. A number of them referenced memes about “taking the L,” popular internet slang for being a loser.
“Bold move letting the signage deliver the convention’s first unforced error,” wrote Democratic National Committee chair Ken Martin. “Trump has reportedly declared it the most beautiful missing letter anyone’s ever seen.”
“RNC already taking Ls. Great start guys,” said the official account for the Lincoln Project.
“They didn’t wanna wait until November to take the L,” wrote Headquarters, the social media activism project of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Trump only hires the best people,” wrote the Palmer Report account.
“Was it put there by the same contractor who lined the pool?” wrote lawyer Tracey Gallagher.
“You dropped this,” wrote the official account of the Florida Democratic Party, posting an old meme of former President Joe Biden holding out an L at a Dairy Queen, with the head replaced with that of state party chair Nikki Fried.
“_O_; _MAOOO; GOD B_ESS PRESIDENT DONA_D TRUMP” wrote conservative attorney George Conway.
