Conservative columnist S.E. Cupp didn’t hold back when she was asked about President Donald Trump’s comments on 9/11 during a ceremony Tuesday.
Trump spoke at an event honoring 9/11 first responders, where he claimed that he was pulled from the rubble of the World Trade Center by rescuers. Critics immediately noted that the president’s claims were fictitious, as he was miles away from the site in Trump Tower that day.
Cupp told CNN’s Erin Burnett on Tuesday’s broadcast of “OutFront” that the president’s claims reflect a deeper issue of Trump trying to corrupt apolitical moments in American history.
“This is why the New York City 9/11 Memorial Committee didn’t want him or any other politician to speak on 9/11, because this day is sacred and solemn and apolitical,” Cupp said.
“There’s no low for him and nothing is sacred,” she added. “So, even this event that we lived through, we can’t even have our grief and our memories without him trying to corrupt it.”
