Gwyneth Paltrow was “so bummed” after her breakup with Brad Pitt.
The actress made a rare comment during Tuesday’s “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast about ending her “heady” romance with her ex-fiancé.
The “Se7en” co-stars started dating in 1994, got engaged two years later before ultimately calling it quits in 1997.
“I was just young, and we were working all over different parts of the world,” Paltrow, 53, recalled of the “hard” split.
“The press aspect and all that makes it feel larger than life in a way,” she added. “You have to carry this faux cultural importance piece, this extra burden and extra shame that it didn’t work out.”
As for where Paltrow and Pitt, 62, stand now, the Goop creator told co-hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco, “He’s a great guy, and I love him to this day. He’s a friend.”
The Emmy winner referred to their connection as “love at first sight,” which she called a “pretty awesome” and “really fun” experience.
“He was so beautiful,” Paltrow gushed. “I think he was 31 and I was 22.”
Confirming that the relationship was her first in the public eye, the Oscar winner remembered it was “overwhelming” to be “getting famous on [her] own” while also becoming “famous as [Pitt’s] girlfriend.”
Last year, Paltrow made headlines for clarifying she never had “what if” thoughts about her ex.
“I really embrace the roads that I take,” she told Variety in March 2025. “I almost never go back and noodle about choices.”
Additionally, she rated his bedroom skills against ex Ben Affleck’s on “Call Her Daddy” in 2023, gushing over Pitt’s “major chemistry” and Affleck’s “technical excellen[ce].”
Blanco, 38, quipped on Tuesday that Pitt and Paltrow eventually experienced a “conscious uncoupling,” referencing the way the latter has described her divorce from ex-husband Chris Martin.
The Golden Globe winner spoke about that breakup as well during Tuesday’s sitdown, highlighting “one particular hard” moment “early on.”
Paltrow was worried their “tense” brunch with their two kids would “go off the rails,” but she and the Coldplay frontman, 49, “hugged, fist bumped” and worked it out.
The exes, who separated in 2014 after 10 years of marriage, “stayed a family” with daughter Apple, 22, and son Moses, 20, despite “not being a couple.”
Paltrow has since moved on with husband Brad Falchuk — and Blanco joked that she “only date[s] guys named Brad” so she doesn’t “mess up the names.”
