Catching up on reality.
After an 18-month hiatus, “The Real Housewives of New York City” is back for its 16th season. New faces will join a few women who were on the most recent season. Carole Radziwill is returning to the franchise after leaving it in 2018. (Her 2005 memoir returned to the New York Times best-seller list this year as interest in her life renewed after the airing of “Love Story,” which chronicled the romance between her husband’s cousin John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.) This season promises all the “Housewives” keystones including arguments over dinner, cast trips and gossip. Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” the reality series following women living in proximity to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was churning out seasons, cast members were joining other reality TV shows and everything seemed to be chugging along. Then in March, video was released showing one of the wives, Taylor Frankie Paul, attacking her ex-boyfriend when they were dating; ABC pulled the season of “The Bachelorette” that she was set to lead and had already filmed. Filming of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” was then also put on hold per requests from cast members. Now a shorter, five-episode fifth season, which was filmed during that time, is set to air. The series has already been renewed for its sixth and seventh seasons, which will be longer. Begins streaming Thursday on Hulu.
Remembering 9/11.
Twenty-five years ago this week, two commercial passenger airplanes were hijacked and crashed into the twin towers in Lower Manhattan. These documentaries and news specials remember the day in New York City and the moments after.
“Top of the World” looks at the cultural significance of the Windows on the World restaurant, which operated atop the north tower of the World Trade Center before the attacks and remembers the employees and patrons who were killed. Monday at 8 p.m. on CNN.
In “9/11 Tribute in Light: Live From Lower Manhattan” David Muir, Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer will host a program that honoring the people who were killed, their families, emergency responders and others affected by the attacks. Friday at 8 p.m. on ABC and available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
On “9/11: We Remember,” which will broadcast from ground zero, Lesley Stahl will reflect on three stories that were featured on “60 Minutes” after the attacks. Friday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
Experiences from inside the buildings are told in “102 Minutes Inside the Towers.” Friday at 8 p.m. on History.
In “Daughters of 9/11,” Elizabeth Miller and Jessica Trant, daughters of victims of the attacks, team up with an F.B.I. special agent, Frank Pellegrino, to discuss whether or not Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, who is accused of masterminding the attacks, will face legal consequences. Friday at 9 p.m. on CBS.
True crime documentaries.
In 2002, a couple was murdered in their home in Topeka, Kan. Dana Chandler, the ex-wife of one of the victims, was convicted of the murders and sentenced to life in prison. But in the second of the three trials Chandler faced, her defense lawyer argued that there was no evidence to prove she was at the scene or in Kansas. The three-part documentary series “A Killer Story” follows Eileen and Keen Umbehr, a couple from Kansas who sent the journalist Joe Sexton emails asking him to look into Chandler’s case. Sexton, formerly at The New York Times and ProPublica, dives into the trials in detail. Thursday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
In 2006, just over a decade after O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Simpson started a hidden camera show, “Juiced,” in which he dressed in costume and pranked people. In one episode, he posed as a used-car salesman trying to sell a white Ford Bronco signed by Simpson and featuring a bullet hole. In another, he pretended to stab someone before yelling his tagline, “You’ve been juiced.” Now the three-part documentary “OJ Unseen: Exploitation of Evil” looks into the making of the show, featuring behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with crew members about Simpson’s desire for fame. Monday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
New in scripted.
A new adult cartoon series by “The Good Place” creators follows two siblings who are living their best messy, fun and disorganized New York City lives — until their type-A sister shows up and wants to hang out. Stephanie Hsu, Poppy Liu and Andrew Law star in this series, “DANG!,” and the first season features eight episodes. Begins streaming Tuesday on Netflix.
“The Paper,” the follow-up to “The Office” that follows a local Midwestern newspaper, is back for Season 2 and the shenanigans, the love for journalism and the co-worker conflicts go on. After the paper earns lots of Ohio Journalism Awards, Ned (Domhnall Gleeson), the editor in chief, sets out to find his next big article. Begins streaming Wednesday on Peacock.
