Rob Reiner posthumous Emmys 2026 win for ‘The Bear’ makes history — and has special family connection

Rob Reiner made history with his posthumous Emmys 2026 win on Sunday, breaking a record held by his father.

The late actor, notably, was honored with the award for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy for his performance as Albert on the “The Bear.”

Reiner, who died in December 2025, last took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for “All in the Family” in 1978.

The 48 years between his wins means he holds the record for the longest gap between Emmy acting wins — a title that previously belonged to his dad, Carl Reiner.

There were 37 years between Carl winning for “Caesar’s Hour” in 1958 and “Mad About You” in 1995.

Additionally, Rob’s win over the weekend marked the first posthumous Emmy given for an on-camera performance since 1995.

At the time, Raúl Julia won for “The Burning Season.”

Social media users raved over Rob’s win, with one tweeting, “There’s something beautiful about an artist with a career that long still giving a performance worthy of being celebrated right at the end.”

While the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony was not televised live like the Primetime Emmy Awards will be on Sept. 12, audience members reportedly gave Rob’s win a lengthy standing ovation.

Presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Rob’s behalf, according to Variety.

News broke of Rob’s nomination in July.

His three episodes in “The Bear” premiered in June, six months after he and wife Michele Reiner were murdered in their California residence.

The couple’s youngest son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with slaying his mom and dad, which the 32-year-old has pleaded not guilty to.

A pre-trial hearing for the murder case is scheduled for Sept. 15.

Rob and Michele are also survived by their other two kids — son Jake, 35, and daughter Romy, 27 — as well as Rob’s daughter Tracy from a previous relationship.
