Elizabeth Holmes let cameras into her home just weeks before she went to prison in May 2023 for Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s new A24 documentary, “You Can See Everything.”
The doc, set for release in October, had its surprise world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on Sunday, with the shocking trailer dropping the same day.
In the one-minute footage, Holmes, 42, could be seen having a tense conversation with Fielder, 42, where she insisted she was “always being real.”
“I’m not that person. I can promise you that,” the disgraced Theranos founder said. “I don’t have anything to deceive you on; of course, I’m not deceiving you.”
“I’m engaging with you as a human being,” Holmes continued to tell Fielder. “Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that.
Fielder replied, “OK. Alright. OK, good chat… You’re being real right now?
“I’m always being real,” Holmes responded.
The camera then panned back to show Holmes rocking her baby in a bouncer with her leg.
Holmes has two children, son William, 5, and daughter Invicta, 3, with her husband, Billy Evans. Invicta was born in February 2023, three months before Holmes reported to prison.
The logline for “You Can See Everything” reads: “Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valleyfounder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move.”
“What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss,” the description adds.
During a Q&A after Sunday’s screening moderated by Emma Stone, Fielder revealed that the crew was in awe when they were filming Holmes at her home before her prison stint.
“Lance and I would talk with the rest of the crew about what we thought happened or what we thought these moments meant, and no one could reach a consensus,” Fielder said.
“And that’s when we really realized, ‘Oh, this is really interesting to follow this. We’re all smart and we’re really working at the top of our intelligence—why can’t we make sense of what’s happening in this house?”
Fielder, who spent three years making the doc, also admitted that he’s “struggling to this day to understand exactly what I experienced.”
“And one of the things I’m genuinely excited about is for this movie to come out and for people to help me understand what I experienced,” he told the audience. “Truly, to this day, I don’t quite know what I went through.”
In 2022, Holmes was found guilty on four counts of wire fraud and conspiracy following a lengthy trial tied to her failed blood-testing startup, Theranos.
She is serving nine years and six months of her 11-year, three-month sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas. Her current release date is Dec. 30, 2031.
Holmes’ story was told in the 2019 HBO documentary “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley” and the 2022 Hulu miniseries “The Dropout” starring Amanda Seyfried.
