Trump says he will spend some, not all, super PAC money on midterms

President Donald Trump said Friday he plans to spend some of his political war chest on the midterms and save some for 2028.

Republicans have been increasingly anxious to see Trump tap the $400 million in his super PAC, MAGA Inc., plus an unknown sum in an allied nonprofit, Securing American Greatness. So far the nonprofit has booked just under $1 million on nationwide ads promoting Trump.

Trump said his total war chest is close to $1 billion and that he has allocated $400 million to $500 million for the midterms. While reassuring Republicans that his reinforcements would arrive in the two months remaining in the midterms, he also confirmed suspicions that he plans to hold onto some funds for other purposes, such as the next presidential election.

“I’m going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us,” he said. “I expect to have money left over, and we can use that for ’28.”

Previously Trump has spoken of supporting Republicans in the midterms mostly in terms of speeches and events. On Friday he told reporters he would make contributions to Republicans he likes and who have a good chance to win.

“This is my money that I control,” he said. “I can spend it for what I want to spend it for.”
