The Most Stylish People at the U.S. Open So Far

The U.S. Open has become something akin to a fashion week: for celebrities, who stepped onto a blue carpet on the opening night; for fans, who have come to love the green and cream hats of Aimé Leon Dore and the look of a Ralph Lauren sweater draped over their shoulders; and for players, who are contractually obligated to wear much of what you see them wear.

On the courts, Carlos Alcaraz has stood out for his insouciant, almost slinky tank top. Naomi Osaka, as usual, could not be ignored as she pulled out an array of dramatic looks: a hooded newspaper gown with a skirt of white tulle; a shiny coated black skirt with a perforated underlayer; and a Dolce & Gabbana dress and Sophia Webster heels she wore to explore the stadium on the eve of the Open.

Then there is Adrian Mannarino’s anti-fashion fashion: a loose, unflashy white T-shirt and baggy pink shorts.

As these athletes’ personalities burst into view in sometimes grueling matches, celebrities like Queen Latifah and Travis Scott drew our eyes to the crowd, too. Here are some of the looks that have stood out so far. Check back for more picks as the U.S. Open goes on.

Gayle King

The CBS Mornings anchor wore a lilac cocktail dress with a bright red rose print to rub shoulders with celebrities and socialites at the U.S. Open Gala on Sunday. She accessorized with a purse in the shape of a grosgrain bow.

Naomi Osaka

The tennis star is as famous for her on-court fashion as she is for her Grand Slam wins. Accustomed to elaborate ensembles, Osaka stepped onto the court in a French-terry and tulle gown by Who Decides War. She paired it with a red and black headband.

Adrian Mannarino

The French tennis player’s understated look consisted of pale pink shorts and a loose-fitting T-shirt from Celio, the French mass retailer. He stood out for his willingness to fade into the background.

Queen Latifah

The actress’s U.S. Open look was adorned with what looks like heavy jewelry. But Latifah kept the rest of the look quite simple in a black-and-white-striped blazer and a black top and trousers.

Hasan Minhaj

The comedian was a touch too formal for a sports event whose dress code has loosened in recent years. He wore a double-breasted navy suit with a patterned tie.

Travis Scott

The rapper wore a pale-blue sweatshirt from his own label, Cactus Jack, as he cheered in the stands for Carlos Alcaraz. He draped a seemingly identical sweatshirt on his shoulders.

Carlos Alcaraz

The Spanish tennis player leaned on a brown monochrome ensemble for his on-court performance including a tank top with generously-cut sleeve holes. He also wore soon-to-be-released Nike sneakers from the brand’s collaboration with Travis Scott.

Roger Federer

Federer, who won 20 Grand Slam titles before retiring in 2022, wore a simple navy suit and powder blue shirt to accept some serious bling — the International Tennis Hall of Fame ring.

Seal

The British singer was unafraid to expose his knees at the tournament. He wore gray schoolboy shorts with a matching blazer and bright green oxfords with yellow laces.

Coco Rocha

The Canadian model wore a black-and-white cardigan, leg-hugging trousers and thick platform heels to watch the matches. She also had a perfectly styled curl on her forehead.
