“Entourage” creator Doug Ellin clapped back at series star Debi Mazar after the actress slammed the show as “toxic” and claimed she was treated poorly behind the scenes after she gave birth.
“My thoughts are this is disgusting,” Ellin wrote on X Tuesday in reaction to Mazar’s comments.
The creator and writer of the HBO show continued, “Never, ever did myself or anyone that matters care or discuss Debi Mazar’s body. I would one million percent embrace any woman who got pregnant.”
He noted that the only “bodies on the show I ever commented on” were series star Adrian Grenier, writing, “I wanted him more muscular,” and Jerry Ferrara, “who I wanted fatter.”
Ellin added about Ferrara, “I will forever feel bad about that because I didn’t realize the health implications at the time and now couldn’t be happier for Jerry’s transformation.”
Page Six reached out to Mazar, Grenier and Ferrara for comment.
Mazar recently told the Sunday Times that the show’s behind-the-scenes environment became “toxic” after she gained weight, following the birth of her second daughter.
Mazar, 62, claimed, “In the third season, the set was a testosterone-fueled environment.”
“I’m tough, but it got toxic towards the end for me,” she said.
The actress played publicist Shauna Roberts throughout the show’s eight-season run, from 2004 to 2011. She also reprised her role for the 2015 “Entourage” movie.
The showbiz comedy followed young A-lister Vincent Chase (Grenier, 50) and his childhood friends from Queens who joined him in Los Angeles, including Turtle (Ferrara).
Mazar alleged that after she returned to set following her maternity leave, her co-workers “didn’t like that I got fat, even though I got skinny again.”
She didn’t name the colleague who had this alleged reaction, but said, “It was complicated because I’m outspoken and never held back my discontent. But I always was professional and I’m grateful I was on it.”
The “Goodfellas” actress said that filming “Entourage” was “a lot of fun, until it wasn’t.”
In 2024, she told Entertainment Weekly that the set was oftentimes “misogynistic.”
“With TV, you don’t know what they’re going to write. I took a job to make money. I mean, [creator Doug Ellin] wrote a really strong character, but that set was very testosterone-driven and misogynistic.”
In 2015, Ferrara talked about his weight loss journey, noting that he was 5’7″ and weighed 200 pounds.
After a doctor told him his weight could pose health risks, he underwent “a whole lifestyle change,” became “devoted” to working out, and slimmed down.
Mark Wahlberg was among the show’s executive producers, and “Entourage” was loosely based on his early Hollywood experiences.
According to Rolling Stone, Wahlberg once said, “I will never own up to which bits are real! Deny until you die’ is my motto.”
Per the outlet, former HBO head Chris Albrecht once said that Vinnie was “more Leonardo DiCaprio.”
