President Donald Trump’s Justice Department took a new swipe at former FBI Director James Comey on Monday, reviving an investigation into alleged leaks of classified information to the media.
A federal grand jury issued a subpoena to Daniel Richman, Comey’s longtime friend and former adviser, as part of a new investigation involving Comey, Richman and alleged disclosures to The New York Times, Fox News national correspondent Brooke Taylor reported, citing multiple law enforcement sources.
“The significance here is that federal prosecutors have now opened a new grand jury investigation into the leaking of classified information and are again seeking information from Richman, one of the central figures in the prior Comey leak probe,” Taylor wrote on X.
“This adds to the list of federal investigations into alleged misconduct by James Comey,” she added.
The action Monday reopens the investigation that began near the end of Trump’s first term, which was shut down during former President Joe Biden’s administration.
Richman previously came under investigation over his role as an intermediary between Comey and the media, according to reports. The newly revived probe adds to the scrutiny surrounding the former FBI director, a prominent Trump critic, since the president returned to the White House.
The grand jury investigation is separate from another inquiry involving alleged misconduct by Comey, Fox News reported Monday.
