A 43-year-old man was arrested in Switzerland on Monday, suspected in a shooting at a rave that killed one woman and wounded five other people, the Swiss police said.
The man, a Swiss citizen, was arrested shortly before 1 a.m. in Aargau, the northern Swiss canton where the attack took place, according to the district’s police.
The shooting happened early Sunday as the rave, a party that had as many as 3,000 visitors, was winding down. More than 100 revelers were still at the site, a horse racing track, when shots were fired, killing a 22-year-old Italian woman.
The police did not name the suspect but said they believed he was the only perpetrator in the attack, which had set off a manhunt.
The police said they were still trying to determine the gunman’s motive. On Sunday, a police official said it was unclear whether the shooting was an act of terrorism, some kind of targeted criminal act or another type of mass attack.
Investigators found casings matching two calibers of bullets at the scene, and some witnesses said they had seen two shooters, leading the police to initially believe the attack could have involved a second assailant.
