A 44-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday night after the police said she stabbed two teenage girls in the abdomen and slashed another in the arm during an attack at a Dollar Tree in Brooklyn.
The teenage girls, ages 16, 15 and 13, were in the store at 817 Van Siclen Avenue in East New York when they got into a verbal dispute with the older woman on Wednesday evening, the police said. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation and the woman, Viola Bouyer, attacked the girls with a knife, the police said.
Ms. Bouyer, who lives half a mile from the store, was charged with eight counts of assault and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
The teenage girls had approached Ms. Bouyer and began accosting her before the dispute got out of hand, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.
The 13-year-old girl was stabbed in the abdomen several times, and the 15-year-old girl was stabbed in the abdomen once. The 16-year-old was slashed in her left arm and treated at the scene, according to the police.
The 13-year-old and the 15-year-old were taken to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition as of Thursday morning, the police said.
The stabbings occurred in the 75th Precinct, where felony assaults have slightly increased year over year, with 673 assaults this year compared with 663 for the same time last year, according to police data.
