Trump’s ‘desperate pitch’ to conspiracy theorists is about to backfire: Analysis

President Donald Trump is undermining his greatest accomplishment as he panders to conspiracy theorists — and it’s about to backfire, a legal analysis claims.

MS NOW’s Michael Steele on Sunday penned a withering editorial about Trump’s “desperate pitch to conspiracy theorists” — and the consequences he’ll face because of it.

“Trump is trashing [his] legacy as he courts the most conspiracy-minded factions of the coalition that put him back in office,” wrote Steele. “It’s a remarkable reversal.”

The legacy in question is Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and Operation Warp Speed, the public-private partnership Steele credited with accelerating the distribution of Covid vaccines.

Even former President Joe Biden has praised Trump for the initiative, Steele noted.

But now, as Trump panders to his Make America Health Again base, the president threatens both the health of the nation and the future of his party, Steele argued.

Steel pointed to Trump’s executive order that recommended a reduction in childhood immunizations from 18 to 11 and separate vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella.

Steele argued this move would make it “more difficult for working-class parents and those in rural areas to stick to their vaccination schedule.”

Steele then chastised Trump for his rhetoric.

“Trump made several wildly false and dangerous claims, including the lie that vaccines are linked to autism,” said Steele. “It’s a desperate pitch to pro-Trump parents, the Make America Healthy Again movement and conspiracy theorists.”

Steele argued Trump was sacrificing a key talking point he could use to bolster his reputation, which has suffered several blows of late as the war in Iran drags on and gas prices skyrocket, ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

By dismantling vaccines, said Steele, he sacrificed Operation Warp Speed as a talking point.

“He could brag about having saved lives, pioneering a new model for vaccine development and hastening the country’s return to normalcy,” said Steele.

“A politician struggling with his current approval ratings might be looking for opportunities to remind the public of that achievement.”
