California mansion asks $4.7M — with scenic views of a giant condo construction site: ‘What a dump’

Not in your future backyard.

Most real estate listings boast about “tremendous views,” but a $4.7 million Newport Beach home in Cliff Haven is selling something far less serene –– a front-row seat to a massive condo construction site.

The elevated property, according to Zillow listing, offers “tremendous views of Fashion Island, Saddleback Mountain and the Castaways,” along with the promise of “even more vistas through future expansion or redevelopment.”

But, the mansion currently offers depressing views of barren land with a backhoe loader as the main attraction. A sign of the abysmal times in the crisis-stricken California housing market, it seems.

Jerry Zaiden, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at MagnaFlow, took to Instagram to share a video of the property Saturday. “This is what you get in Newport Beach, California for $4.7 million dollars. 3500 ft.² on a 9100 square-foot lot built in 1953,” he captioned the video.

Instagram users quickly jumped in with their views with one user saying, “What a dump.” One of the bathrooms in the home even has an awkwardly positioned toilet which is partially buried in the wall.

“A $4.7M purchase to rebuild with a dirt lot/condo view sounds like luxury,” Orange County resident, Juliana Vittoria Kiesselbach commented.

Another user, who said they had moved to Tennessee from the Golden State, said “Hell to the no no and that’s why I moved to Tennessee six years ago… 40 acres 4300 square-foot home for $700,000 and now worth double.”

Others online found the listing way too overpriced for the multi-million dollar price tag.

“What a friggin joke. I’ll give ya $600,000 and not a goddamn penny more. When the condos go up you’ll lose that beautiful view of the highway,” another user commented.

The five-bedroom, 3.5-bath house, spanning more than 3,500 square feet on a 9,000-plus-square-foot hillside lot, is being marketed as a “move-in ready” opportunity in “one of Newport Beach’s most coveted areas.”

The address sits just off 17th Street, near shops and restaurants, and a short hop from the Castaways trails, Newport Harbor, local beaches, Fashion Island, and Balboa Island.
