A roadside President Donald Trump Superstore near Knoxville, Tennessee, is closing due to declining business.
Initially, reports claimed “Trump Superstore” was closing due to the owner’s retirement, sparking concerns from friends and associates. But the owner, Bill Hays, told Slate the reporter “did not know what she was talking about.”
He clarified, “I don’t think she wanted to say we were closing for lack of business, but that’s why we’re closing.”
Dan, a part-time employee, noted the store once drew 86 visitors on peak days, especially after major news events. But now, the store faces empty parking lots and picked-over inventory at 50 percent discounts.
“We’re not busy anymore,” Dan said.
Unprompted, he attributed the decline to Trump’s “dwindling, dwindling, dwindling” popularity and Republicans’ financial hardship.
“People really are saying, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to do a full load of groceries or I’m going to put my electric bill on a credit card this month,’ ” he added.
Hays told Slate, Dan’s opinions had “nothing to do with the store whatsoever.”
“It’s all about making money,” he said, and claimed other Trump-inspired businesses remained open.
Trump’s approval ratings have dropped to the 30s, according to The Economist, and traffic to Truth Social has fallen sharply, The New York Times reported.
