NYC man learns fate for chopping up ex-girlfriend with meat cleaver, living with her body for a month

A Manhattan man was sentenced to 26 years to life behind bars on Wednesday for chopping up his ex-girlfriend with a meat cleaver and living with her dismembered corpse in her Brooklyn apartment for a month.

Justin Williams, 27, learned his fate in Brooklyn Supreme Court for hacking his 22-year-old ex, D’Asia Johnson, to death inside her East New York apartment on Aug. 21, 2022.

Williams, of Harlem, stabbed Johnson several times in her torso and back — then dismembered her body with a meat cleaver and stashed her chopped-up remains in garbage bags inside the apartment for nearly a month, prosecutors said.

The maniac even used towels and cleaning products to mask the smell of her decomposing remains and left all the windows open in the apartment as her family desperately searched for her, cops said.

Williams continued living in Johnson’s apartment and impersonated her to call out of work so she could continue receiving paychecks — using the cash to bring prostitutes to the apartment.

Johnson, 22, entered her apartment on Linwood Avenue in East New York for the last time on Aug. 21, 2022.

The killer also used his slain ex-girlfriend’s public benefits to buy himself food and brought his adolescent son to the apartment as her remains decomposed nearby.

Williams continued to try to conceal Johnson’s death from her concerned family, with her remains only discovered after suspicious building personnel conducted a wellness check and contacted police.

The pair had previously been in a romantic relationship for several years, during which Williams repeatedly abused her, prosecutors added.

Johnson was a protected party under an order of protection requiring him to stay away from her during the time of the heinous murder.

Williams was convicted of a slew of charges during a June jury trial, including second-degree murder, concealment of a human corpse, fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree criminal impersonation, and fifth-degree welfare fraud.

“D’Asia Johnson suffered horrific violence at the hands of this defendant, who then compounded that cruelty with conduct that showed a staggering disregard for her life, her dignity, and the loved ones desperately searching for her,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement.

“He has now been held accountable for that horrific brutality, and I hope D’Asia’s family can find some measure of solace and justice in today’s sentence.”
