This dad beat a world record by running a 4:17 mile pushing a stroller

A 30-year-old dad ran the Guardian Mile race in Cleveland on Saturday while pushing his daughter in a stroller, finishing in 4 minutes and 17.7 seconds — nearly 9 seconds faster than the Guinness World Record, though the new record has yet to be certified.

“We run three to four times a week together,” Stephen Biebelhausen, an ER doctor, told The Washington Post by text from his job at Cleveland Clinic. “She absolutely loves running and will kick her legs, put her arms up like a roller coaster and squeal in joy.”

The commentators on the live stream of the race remarked that it looked as if Biebelhausen’s 1-year-old daughter, Blake, thought she was the one running.

“Look at how much fun this baby is having!” one commentator said.

Biebelhausen said he was a runner in college but was never fast enough to be a pro. He knew the record for a stroller mile and said when he hit the halfway mark on Saturday he realized it was within reach and sped up.

After crossing the finish line, Biebelhausen kissed his daughter on the head and gave her his medal.
