Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) is informing her constituents every step of the way after being injured in an accident — and it’s funneling even more scrutiny of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Kaptur was hospitalized after a hit-and-run car crash in Toledo. Over the weekend, she posted a video explaining her recovery.
“I’m working my way back, and am so grateful for all of the help that has been given to me in this effort,” said Kaptur in the recording, saying that she is on her way to a “rapid recovery.”
The video was met with a flood of praise for her resilience — but also scorn for McConnell, who was hospitalized for months after a health episode at his home. Since that time, facing mounting pressure for proof of life, McConnell’s office released two photos of him recovering at the hospital, but no video.
He was reportedly discharged from the hospital last week and is now apparently recovering at home, but details remain scant.
“Stark contrast to McConnell who to date has not released any video message,” wrote Drew Savicki, a longtime political commentator and analyst for American Bridge.
“Mitch McConnell can’t even put out a video message while Marcy Kaptur is using her hospital stay to aura farm,” wrote the account behind @ElectIndex.
“So why hasn’t Mitch McConnell, IF he’s alive, done something like this?” said blogger and writer Janice Hough. “Even if he looks awful, Donald Trump is daily proof of the wonders of makeup.”
