U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland Callista Gingrich marked Swiss National Day with a short greeting, and social media couldn’t look away.
In the clip, posted to the embassy’s account for the Aug. 1 holiday, Gingrich speaks over ambient music.
“On behalf of the United States Embassy, I wish the Swiss people a Happy National Day,” she says, before calling independence, freedom and democracy “values Americans deeply understand, and cherish.”
The delivery — and what commenters called her heavily filtered look — sent X users reaching for surreal comparisons.
CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski joked about “dissociating” from the video while Carly Moran of the conservative media watchdog The Brand Brief quipped: “She is my favorite Lynchian character. I’ll fight anyone who speaks ill of my queen.”
Others fixated on the production quality.
“This feels like something you’d see at a museum playing on a kiosk that no one is paying attention to,” joked Ethan Buchanan of The Next-Gen Report. He followed up with a jab that her makeup looks like its only purpose is to disguise the fact that she eats people.”
One user compared her to how “sapient owl people” might draw a human, while X political observer Grace Ryan riffed on the “digital staffer that yassifies” the ambassador “for a living.” Nick Lindquist of the Civitas Institute wondered aloud whether a Gen Z aide working for her “thinks it’s hilarious to have her do this.”
Gingrich drew near-identical reactions in May over a similarly airbrushed video touting an investment summit, which users likened to a hostage video.
Gingrich, Trump’s former ambassador to the Vatican, has held the Bern post since October. Her husband, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, has meanwhile swung from warning Republicans would lose the midterms to a bolder, poll-defying forecast about November.
