Former Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) drew swift conservative backlash Tuesday.
In a social media post uploaded to X Wednesday night, Crenshaw told Americans struggling with rising food costs, “Stop whining, get a job, eat Ramen like the rest of us did in college, on a budget with [four] roommates.”
Crenshaw’s post followed a viral conservative debate over food prices. It began when a Turning Point USA college student complained that a burrito costs $20.
“Only communists care (they set prices remember? Then everyone starves, remember?) Are you a communist?” wrote Crenshaw, and crudely asked if people were capable of handling themselves.
“The Republican Party is still dominated by traitors who got rich off of insider trading but mock you for thinking that you should be able to eat meat in a first world country,” Auron MacIntyre, a conservative commentator, wrote on X. He referenced Crenshaw’s 2024 violation of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act, a federal disclosure law that requires lawmakers to report stock trades on time.
Christian Heiens fired back, “You are so unbelievably tone deaf and oblivious to public sentiment that it’s no wonder your own constituents fired you.”
