Alarms blare after Max Miller busted ‘tampering’ with evidence submitted for House probe

Embattled Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) triggered alarms as documents he shared amid an investigation were found to be manipulated.

According to reporting by Politico, Miller shared documents related to his bitter fight against assault allegations that seemed to come from his congressional office, which would violate House rules amid an investigation by the Ethics Committee. His attorneys then changed the authorship of the documents to read Minc Law LLC, Politico reported.

Four documents that Miller posted in a Dropbox folder showed that the authorship was “Office of Rep. Max Miller – Legal Counsel,” which suggested that congressional resources were used to create them, Politico’s Daniel Lippman reported.

Miller’s personal attorney, Aaron Minc, told Politico that he would change the metadata to read Minc Law LLC after Politico reached out to him, but it raised concerns online about how he was handling his House Ethics investigation.

“To be clear, this could absolutely be illegal evidence tampering,” wrote lawyer and activist Cheyenne Hunt in a post on X.

“Tampering with evidence,” former GOP congressman and convicted fraudster George Santos wrote. “Lovely.”

Miller’s chief of staff, Phil Poe, told Politico that the error might have been the result of using AI and insisted that Minc handled the production of the documents and the creation of the Dropbox folder. Poe added that Miller’s congressional office doesn’t employ anyone with the title “Legal Counsel.”

Miller denies the allegations of child abuse and domestic abuse against him. The documents in the Dropbox contain recordings and records related to the allegations that have been public about Miller. Some of the files in Dropbox include transcriptions of recorded phone calls between Miller and his ex-wife, Emily Moreno.

“It is provided so that reporting on these allegations can be checked against the primary record,” one document reads. “Every factual claim made in the Congressman’s public statement is supported by an exhibit in this packet.”

The House Ethics investigation was launched at Miller’s own request.
