Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) sparked outrage Tuesday after being captured on video agreeing to meet with survivors of Jeffrey Epstein – only to snub them moments later.
In a video published Tuesday by Cheyenne Hunt, a progressive attorney and political activist, Tillis could be seen confronted by prominent Epstein survivors requesting a meeting.
“I want to meet not with the attorneys, but with the survivors and have a discussion,” Tillis could be heard saying.
“We would love that!” an Epstein survivor off camera could be heard saying.
As he made his way to an elevator, Tillis then instructed the Epstein survivors to go to his office, which he pointed to and described as being “just around the corner.” As relayed by Hunt, however, those Epstein survivors later claimed Tillis was a no-show.
“We caught Tillis on camera and got him to agree to meet with the Epstein survivors ahead of a vote on [Acting Attorney General] Todd Blanche. They sat in his office for 45 minutes before his staff told them he wasn’t coming,” Hunt wrote Tuesday in a social media post on X.
“He clearly agreed to meet with them, only to stand them up in his office. Beyond disrespectful and cowardly.”
The ordeal occurred as Epstein survivors continue to press lawmakers not to confirm Blanche as permanent attorney general. The Justice Department, headed by Blanche, has faced intense scrutiny for revealing the personal identities of Epstein survivors, as well as withholding millions of Epstein-related files and redacting those it did release beyond what law permitted.
A Senate committee voted to advance Blanche’s nomination Tuesday morning, with his full confirmation now slated for a final vote.
A colleague of Tillis’, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), also dismissed the concerns of Epstein survivors Tuesday morning, telling a reporter that the abuse they alleged to have suffered at the hands of Epstein could not “be remedied with a no vote” on Blanche’s confirmation.
