President Donald Trump’s D.C. prosecutor Jeanine Pirro finds herself hanging by a thread after fumbling the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool “vandalism” case.
But it’s not the beginning of her woes, Politico reported on Tuesday. Allies of the president have been calling for her head for a while now.
Pirro has racked up a string of failures whenever prosecutors try to turn Trump’s personal grievances into criminal cases, the report noted. Her office failed to convince a grand jury to indict six sitting Democratic lawmakers over comments about military members refusing unlawful orders. A separate investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s spending collapsed after a federal judge accused Pirro of a politically motivated agenda.
Grand juries also rejected cases tied to anti-ICE protests and, perhaps most infamously, the man accused of throwing a sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection agent.
According to the report, some key Trump loyalists have been slamming Pirro for a variety of other reasons.
Neil McCabe, a former aide to Trump’s previous acting D.C. prosecutor Ed Martin, has said Pirro isn’t as aggressive as his former boss, saying on MAGA outlet Real America’s Voice, “If Ed Martin was the U.S. attorney in D.C., people would be in cuffs.” (Republicans forced Trump to withdraw Martin over his lack of qualifications.)
Meanwhile, Jonathan Gross, another Martin associate who helped represent January 6 rioters, is disgruntled that Pirro isn’t doing more to rehabilitate the rioters. “To date, there has been no public statement about these abuses from her office and no investigation into how this occurred or who gave the orders,” said Gross in an email to Politico, adding, “This was an assault on our justice system that demands accountability.”
